BECOME® INSTITUTE / BUSINESS PROBLEMS

DIFFERENT BUSINESS PROBLEMS.
BUT ONE UNDERLYING CAUSE.

Leaders are confronted with an ever-growing list of business problems.

Growth is becoming harder to sustain. Strategies fail to become reality. Transformation programmes do not deliver lasting results. People disengage. Organisations slow down. Brands lose their relevance. New technologies promise more value than they create.

Each problem appears to require its own specialist, methodology and intervention.

But what if these are not separate problems?

What if they are different symptoms produced by the same underlying system?

THE BUSINESS PROBLEMS LEADERS ARE TRYING TO SOLVE

You may recognise one or several of these challenges:

  • Growth has stalled—or is becoming increasingly difficult to sustain.
  • Profit margins are under pressure, even after repeated cost reductions and efficiency programmes.
  • Strategy looks convincing on paper but fails to translate into everyday execution.
  • There are too many priorities, decisions move slowly and accountability remains unclear.
  • Leaders, teams and departments pull in different directions.
  • The organisation has become slow, complex and increasingly difficult to manage.
  • Customers are becoming harder to win and retain, while the brand is losing relevance and distinction.
  • Talented people leave, while those who remain become disengaged or resistant to change.
  • The existing culture prevents the organisation from moving in the direction it has chosen.
  • Change and transformation programmes produce activity, but little lasting change.
  • Innovation remains incidental or promising ideas fail to scale.
  • Technology and AI investments do not deliver the expected business value.
  • Purpose and values sound convincing, but do not guide real decisions and behaviour.
  • The company knows that it must change—but not what it should become.

Conventionally, every one of these problems is treated as a separate discipline.

Strategy consultants address strategy. Change consultants address change. Organisational consultants address structure and culture. Branding agencies address identity and positioning. Technology consultants address digital transformation and AI.

The interventions may be valuable. But because they address different parts of the organisation separately, they rarely change the system that keeps producing the problems.

The symptoms are treated.
Their common cause remains.

THE REAL PROBLEM LIES BENEATH THE VISIBLE PROBLEMS

Our research into ultraperforming leaders and organisations revealed that most companies still operate according to the business logic of the industrial age.

They work predominantly outside-in.

They study markets, competitors, customer expectations, technologies and trends. Based on this external reality, they decide what the organisation should do, how it should position itself and how people must change to deliver it.

Identity, strategy, culture, structure, leadership, brand and operations are subsequently developed as separate organisational disciplines.

The result is fragmentation.

Strategy becomes disconnected from identity. Culture becomes disconnected from operations. The brand becomes disconnected from the organisation behind it. People are asked to execute choices they did not create and do not intrinsically own.

Leaders then try to repair the consequences through alignment programmes, culture programmes, brand programmes, engagement programmes, transformation programmes and repeated reorganisations.

But the underlying business logic remains unchanged.

And so the problems return.

ULTRAPERFORMERS OPERATE FROM A DIFFERENT LOGIC

BECOME Institute spent 25 years studying and modelling nearly 700 leaders across approximately 100 organisations.

The ultraperformers in this research did not simply execute conventional business logic more effectively.

They operated from fundamentally different thinking, logic and architecture.

They worked inside-out.

They began with the intrinsic DNA of the organisation: who it is, what it uniquely stands for and what it has the potential to become.

From this intrinsic identity, they developed purpose. From purpose, they created strategy. From strategy, they developed tactics. And from tactics, they built the organisation and operations required to make everything real.

The BECOME® sequence runs from identity, to strategy, to tactics, to operations.

  1. IDENTITY
  2. STRATEGY
  3. TACTICS
  4. OPERATIONS

These were not separate organisational disciplines.

They were interconnected expressions of one intrinsic logic.

IDENTITY IS NOT A MARKETING CONSTRUCTION

The BECOME® Program therefore begins by uncovering the intrinsic DNA of the organisation.

That DNA reveals its authentic identity and intrinsic purpose: not what the company thinks the market wants it to be, but what it can uniquely become and contribute.

This also creates the strongest possible brand identity.

The brand no longer has to be artificially constructed as an external image or positioning. It becomes the authentic expression of the organisation itself.

Its identity, purpose, strategy, culture, behaviour, customer experience and communications begin to tell the same story—because they originate from the same source.

In the 21st century, that coherence is not merely a branding advantage.

It is the foundation of trust, relevance and sustainable distinction.

ONE INTEGRATED PROGRAM

The BECOME® Program takes the organisation through four interconnected phases:

  1. 01

    IDENTITY

We uncover the intrinsic DNA, identity and purpose of the organisation.

  2. 02

    STRATEGY

We translate that identity into a clear and distinctive direction for the future.

  3. 03

    TACTICS

We determine how leadership, culture, structure, brand, innovation and customer value must express that direction.

  4. 04

    OPERATIONS

We embed the new logic into decisions, behaviour, processes and daily execution.

The BECOME® Program is built and implemented with the organisation’s own leaders and people.

As a result, they do not merely receive a new strategy or organisational model.

They understand it, build it, own it and become capable of bringing it to life.

WHEN THE CAUSE CHANGES, THE SYMPTOMS CHANGE

  • Strategy becomes easier to execute because it grows from a shared identity.
  • Alignment increases because people and departments work from the same intrinsic logic.
  • Culture changes because purpose is translated into real decisions and behaviour.
  • Engagement grows because people participate in creating what the organisation will become.
  • Innovation gains direction because it expresses the organisation’s unique potential.
  • The brand becomes more authentic and distinctive because it is no longer separated from the company behind it.
  • Technology and AI create more value because they serve a coherent strategic direction.
  • Transformation becomes sustainable because the organisation changes its underlying logic—not merely its visible structure.

The individual business problems have not been ignored.

They have been addressed at the level from which they arise.

THE PROBLEM THAT BROUGHT YOU HERE IS A VALID STARTING POINT

You may have arrived here because you are looking for help with strategy execution, transformation, organisational alignment, culture, leadership, innovation, productivity, customer centricity, brand positioning or change management.

That problem is real.

But it may not be the real problem.

Before commissioning another isolated intervention, it is worth discovering what connects the problems inside your organisation—and what becomes possible when their common cause is changed.

DO NOT JUST SOLVE THE SYMPTOM.
CHANGE THE SYSTEM THAT PRODUCES IT.

The BECOME® Program helps leaders and organisations move from fragmented industrial-age thinking to the integrated inside-out logic of the 21st century.

Not by adding another initiative.

By changing what the organisation is built upon.
