THE BUSINESS METHODOLOGY OF ULTRAPERFORMERS
WHAT IF ALL YOUR RECURRING BUSINESS PROBLEMS SHARE ONE UNDERLYING CAUSE?
WELL, WE HAVE NEWS FOR YOU
THEY DO.
For more than twenty-five years, our co-founder, scientist, author and entrepreneur Eric Bartels has studied how leaders and their organizations think, work and perform. His ongoing research includes interviews with 700 CEOs, in-depth studies of 100 enterprises from within, and extensive study of the work of Abraham Maslow, Jim Collins, Morten Hansen, John Kotter, Peter Senge, Richard Ryan, Edward Deci and others.
The central finding is that a fundamentally different mindset and way of thinking and working is emerging, accompanied by a fundamentally different business logic and architecture.
Today, only 5% of enterprises worldwide operate this way. This approach removes the underlying cause of 98% of recurring business problems, eliminating the need for the consultancy interventions those problems require, while radically increasing revenue and shareholder value.
The other 95% continue to operate within the existing industrial model we all grew up with, constantly firefighting the problems it creates.
WHAT SETS THIS 5% OF ENTERPRISES APART?
THE HISTORIC SHIFT IN THINKING AND WORKING
EXTRINSIC VERSUS INTRINSIC
The 95% of enterprises operating within the existing industrial model we all grew up with think and work extrinsically, from the outside in: the financial value they want to obtain determines what they do.
The 5% operating from a fundamentally different mindset think and work intrinsically, from the inside out: their DNA and the value they can contribute to the world determine how they develop, organize themselves and work.
EXTRINSIC
95% OF ENTERPRISES
FROM THE OUTSIDE IN
Markets, competitors and commercial opportunities shape the enterprise’s direction. Products and services are developed to generate revenue, profit and shareholder value. Hierarchy, processes, procedures, and financial targets direct how people work.
INTRINSIC
5% OF ENTERPRISES
FROM THE INSIDE OUT
DNA shapes a fundamentally different business logic and architecture. Strategy, Tactics and daily Operations have fundamentally different meanings and functions. Products and services express the value the enterprise exists to contribute. People use their natural talents, work autonomously and create that value together.
EXTRINSIC ENTERPRISES GENERATE:
1–5×
ENTERPRISE VALUE PER PRODUCT OR SERVICE
COMPARED WITH THE OTHER EXTRINSIC COMPETITORS
1–1,7×
ENTERPRISE VALUE PER EMPLOYEE
COMPARED WITH THE OTHER EXTRINSIC COMPETITORS
INTRINSIC ENTERPRISES GENERATE:
750–1,500×
ENTERPRISE VALUE PER PRODUCT OR SERVICE
COMPARED WITH THE NEXT-BEST EXTRINSIC COMPETITOR.
7–12×
ENTERPRISE VALUE PER EMPLOYEE
COMPARED WITH THE NEXT-BEST EXTRINSIC COMPETITOR.
By creating value for the world, these intrinsically driven enterprises generate radically more financial value for themselves. Their coherent business logic and architecture also remove the underlying causes of recurring problems, freeing time and attention for value creation.
WE CALL THIS ULTRAPERFORMANCE. RADICALLY GREATER VALUE. STRUCTURALLY FEWER PROBLEMS.
